10 Things I’ve Learned in 10 Years of Marriage

10 Things I’ve Learned in 10 Years of Marriage

If you are a follower of mine on Instagram, you saw that yesterday Gordon and I celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary. Holla! Can you even believe that? TEN years. Holy moly. In those ten years, we did a TON of stuff like move a bunch of times, graduate with our bachelors degrees, have three kids, buy and sell two houses, put my husband through grad school and start this wee little blog of mine. If you wanted to, you can go back and read through my archives all about our lives from the time this blog started when we had one very little Brookie cookie up until now.

So, I thought I’d write a quick post about the things I’ve learned in marriage, since I’m like an expert now. Ten years means expert, right? I thought so 😉

Thanksgiving week is upon us!! I’m thinking about buying a deep freezer just so I can buy multiple turkeys and have a place to store them. The prices for these birds are AMAZING! I love me a good turkey, ya’ll.

I’m also all about those post-turkey tryptophan induced food comas naps.

Except this year, I think my sister-in-law is making ham instead of turkey….soooo all the more reason to buy 17 birds to fill up this deep freezer. AMIRIGHT?

Lauren, you’re always right!

Thanks, friends. I know I can always count on you. 🙂

Well, our week started off as any other week, with my husband leaving Sunday night and my in-laws hanging out at our apartment. Kids went to school, I got some work done, etc. etc.

Then on Tuesday, my kids had the day off school so we drove to DC to visit Gordon early because!! He officially finished and graduated his training on Wednesday morning!! It’s been a long 8 months, people. And we’re finally done! Yes, I’m so proud of Gordon and so glad he made it to the end of this training because it was hard, but hot damn, I’m so proud of myself too. Proud that I moved me and my three kids across the country by myself and lived to tell the tale. If you read through my other weekly recaps from May and June, you’ll see just how insane those weeks were to handle alone. (This one was the worst week of my life.)

So, at Gordon’s graduation, he gave a lovely speech (because he was voted in as class president (of course he was) and was required to give a speech) and was recognized with some awesome achievements he had made over the past 235 days. Yes I counted the days, why do you ask?

So, I have a potato roll recipe on my site that I swear by. It’s my Mom’s recipe that we grew up eating, normally with a beef and barley stew which I have yet to post. (It’s only a matter of time, folks.)  They are really as amazing as I keep broadcasting, but, I mean, that’s my opinion and you should know that its really hard for me to NOT like bread, buuuut that’s a different story for another time.

Anyways, when I came across a recipe for Sweet Potato Rolls from my friend Megan’s new cookbook, I knew I had to try them immediately because hello, it’s me and because BREAD. Also, how perfect would these be for Thanksgiving? SO perfect.
