Why You’ll Love This Oreo Balls Recipe

We all need a recipe or two in our back pockets that look impressive but are actually really easy to make in no time. Enter Oreo Truffle Balls! Ya’ll, these are a no-bake dessert that you can make with any flavor of Oreo cookies, cream cheese and melted chocolate (or candy coating). You can make them well in advance and store them in the freezer (or fridge) for a ready-made dessert, treat for the neighbors or a grab and go snack.

Oreo Cheesecake Balls Ingredients

Only three simple ingredients needed to make these Oreo Balls!

  • Oreo Cookies – I used the original, regular Oreos for this recipe but you can customize this recipe by changing the flavor of Oreo cookie you use! Golden Oreo and mint Oreo are so delicious! Feel free to experiment with all of the fun flavors Oreo has to offer. (Just be sure you’re not using double stuff…it will make for a less sturdy Oreo ball.)
  • Cream Cheese (room temperature)- I prefer using Philidelphia cream cheese because it’s the tangiest cream cheese on the market and I know its widely available for most of you. That means your finished product will match mine exactly!
  • Chocolate/Candy Coating – Melted Baker’s Chocolate (any kind-semi-sweet, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate chips!) works well to coat these truffle balls, but if you can find it, candy coating works just as well, is way more forgiving and is usually a little bit cheaper. Use whatever you can find!
  • Sprinkles – sprinkles are optional but kids love helping to decorate these.

How to Make No Bake Oreo Cheesecake Balls

To make Oreo Balls you simply mix, shape, dip, and refrigerate. For full recipe details see the printable recipe card down below. Here is step-by-step what you can expect making these no bake treats!

Crush Oreos

Place Oreo cookies in between 2 pieces of parchment paper or into a ziploc bag, removing the air before sealing. Using a rolling pin, crush the Oreos into fine crumbs.

Pro Tip: Pulsing in a food processor will also work to get very fine cookie crumbs.

Combine Cream Cheese + Crushed Oreos

Using an electric hand mixer or stand mixer, mix softened cream cheese and crushed Oreo cookies together until well blended.

Shape Mixture into Balls

Using a small cookie scoop or round tablespoon, shape the cream cheese mixture into 48 (1-inch ) balls. Freeze for 10 minutes to firm them up a little.

Dip Oreo Balls into Melted Chocolate

Dip Oreo balls in melted chocolate and place, in a single layer, on a wax paper-lined baking sheet or shallow dish. If desired, garnish with sprinkles right away while the chocolate is still wet.

Refrigerate

Refrigerate for 1 hour or until chocolate has firmed up, then enjoy!

Storage Directions For Oreo Cheesecake Balls

Once set, I like to store these in a large airtight container or even a few smaller zip top bags. They will last about two weeks in the fridge.

Or if you wanted to, you could even freeze these Oreo Balls for up to 3 months!

FAQ + Helpful Tips for No Bake Oreo Cheesecake Balls

Can I use whipped cream instead of cream cheese?

No. Whipped cream cheese is not the same! Be sure to use an 8 ounce block of cream cheese for the best results. And don’t forget to leave it out to soften.

Here are all of my tips and tricks for making the best Oreo Balls ever!

Use a Small Cookie Scoop: to help you shape uniform truffles, use a small cookie scoop then roll with your hands. Or even a round tablespoon would work.
Melting Chocolate: you don’t need to use the double boiler method to melt your chocolate. Instead, just pop the chocolate in the microwave and melt in 30-second intervals. If you notice the chocolate is a little thick, add 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil to help thin it out.
Dipping: don’t underestimate the usefulness of a fork when it comes to dipping. Use two forks to roll the chilled oreo ball in the chocolate. Once coated, lift out of the chocolate and tap fork on the edge to let all the excess chocolate drip through the prongs of the fork.

Why are my Oreo balls greasy looking?

If they are left out at room temperature too long, the cream cheese filling will begin to crumble and the oil in the cream cheese may separate a little. Simply put them back in the fridge to firm them up again.

Can I freeze Oreo Balls?

Yes! If you want to store and use them later, place in a freezer safe, airtight container or bag for up to 3 months! Allow to thaw in the fridge overnight.

Sounds good. This is a little criticism of “grab” the recipe, it feels rude. Much prefer a better word choice. Courtesy seems so undervalued today. Just a thought.

Someone just made these Oreo balls at an event I recently went to and they were seriously delicious. She dipped them all in white chocolate and decorated one to be a “blue eye”, as it was an Edgar Allen Poe event that she made them for. They are on my list of holiday goodies to make for sure.

I’ve been using this recipe for some time, glad to see it mainstream! Only I prefer to coat the oreo “truffles” with crushed butterfingers or thin mint cookies! This recipe gives a lot of room for fun mix-ups!

My family and friends enjoy it when my daughter and I make oreo cookie balls. Our favorite is mint. We cover our chocolate mint oreo cookie balls in the dark chocolate and then drizzle some green-tinted white chocolate over the top.
