Over Labor Day weekend, we were able to drive to Montauk! I’ve always wanted to go here because it’s a super famous beach town in the Hamptons and there were lots of hot foodie spots I wanted to hit.

Well, the weather was pretty awful when we were there and only got one mildly dreary day out of the two we stayed. We were supposed to stay three days since it was a long weekend, but after a dash board light popped up in our van and our last day was more scheduled rain, we thought we should travel back a day early just to be safe and to miss the traffic heading back into the city.

Overall, Montauk is a beautiful cute beach town that revolves around the ocean. We went out to eat quite a bit and were not impressed at all with the food which was too bad considering how darn expensive it all was, but oh well. It is what it is.

We did get a good day and a half though, and these are the pictures from those days. Even though the food and weather was disappointing, it was so nice to have an extra day to spend together as a family. I love these people so much!!

It’s so gorgeous at the Montauk Lighthouse! We were able to spend a long afternoon here exploring, enjoying the views and playing at the park right next to the parking lot for the lighthouse. You do have to pay a few dollars to park your vehicle and then again to get beyond the gates to view the lighthouse closer, but it turned out to be well worth it for our family. We were there at least an hour and a half with another hour spent at the park.

Of course Eddie wanting nothing to do with me! That boy is such a mover!

We basically do anything to keep him entertained. Brooke took this picture!! 🙂

I love him.

The next day between rainstorms, we swam at the heated pool at the hotel. That was a super fun part for our family, and like I mentioned in this post, I was so proud and surprised by Blake’s bravery and sudden confidence in the pool. Before this point, he was deathly afraid of the water and didn’t want to be let go. BUT he was totally fine here with his pool noodles just swimming around and almost getting annoyed that I’d ask if he was doing ok. Haha!!

Do you see? Smiling and floating with no help!!

There was a break in the weather for about an hour when we went to the beach. It was cold and wet and so so windy! I stayed mostly in one spot with Eddie playing in the sand as bundled and warm as possible while Gordon and the kids played in the waves. I don’t understand how they weren’t cold, but whatever. I’m always cold though.

Do you see? My kids in swimsuits and me completely covered head to toe. I think I was wearing 4 layers.

Overall, the weather and the bad food didn’t kill our spirits and we all had a great time because we were together. Our weekends are all we have together so we try to make the most of them as best we can, regardless of where we are 🙂

Have a wonderful weekend, friends!! xo

  1. Lauren, I’m telling you – try Greenport for a weekend getaway next year (best time to go would be late spring/summertime) – you’d love it! I’m lucky enough to live close by, and it’s one of my favorite places. You won’t be disappointed! 🙂

  2. Bar Harbor in Maine is beyond belief gorgeous! We went in early June a few years ago and the weather was perfect, but it would be so lovely in the fall! For a closer getaway, I recommend West Point over a long weekend. The campus is beautiful and there’s lots to see and do there (plus there’s a ward that meets there with cadets and Army professors). The surrounding towns are charming, there’s hiking, and great pizza at a place called Cosimo’s. I miss it!

  3. Go to Mystic, Connecticut ! Fabulous seaport , aquarium (indoors!) totally kid friendly . Lots of hotels to stay at and a beautiful town to walk around. Not far from Watch Hill , RI … Fabulous little beach town. Highly recommend this for the future !
