My Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix is just like the store-bought version, but homemade! And yes, they taste better! Perfect for when you don’t have the time to make Chocolate Chip Cookies from scratch.

These last few days, I have been guzzling down my glorious Perrier with lime in between eating warm chocolate chip cookies. Why?

Because I’ve been working on perfecting this chocolate chip cookie mix recipe and by George, I think I’ve done it.  I gave it a go approximately 16 times and finally, have a recipe that you can pack up for MONTHS in advance allowing you {yes YOU} to throw a batch of cookies together in literally 2 minutes flat.

You know those cookie mixes you can buy at the store? This is like a homemade version of that, but obviously better. All you need to add is a stick of soft butter and an egg. Mix mix mix. Scoop scoop scoop. And that’s it!

Main Ingredients Needed

With just a few ingredients you can make the best chocolate chip cookie mix, perfect for those spur of the I-need-cookies-now moments! Here’s what you need:

  • Sugar + Brown Sugar – for sweetness and soft cookies.
  • Flour – this fills out the cookies.
  • Baking Soda + Baking Powder – this gives the cookies a good amount of lift.
  • Vanilla Bean – if you don’t want to use vanilla beans/can’t find them, simply add in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract with the butter and egg when you mix your batch of cookies.
  • Salt – to balance the sweet.
  • Chocolate Chips – I used half semi-sweet and half milk chocolate. But feel free to use what you like here.
  • Butter + Egg – when you are ready to make some cookies, you’ll need these two for more flavor and structure.

A Note About Flour

Generally, people have the most trouble with chocolate chip cookies because there was not enough/too much flour. With too much flour, the cookie doesn’t spread. Not enough flour, the cookie spreads like ca-razy.

For this chocolate chip cookie mix, I have weighed all my items to ensure a consistent cookie. The best way to measure flour is to first fluff it up, then spoon it into a measuring cup, leveling the top with a butter knife. This will help you get perfect cookies every time.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix

My Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix is just like the store-bought version, but homemade! And yes, they taste even better than Betty Crocker!
servings 18 cookies
Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Stir all ingredients together until combined. Store in airtight container for up to 3 months.
  • To make a bath of cookies, preheat oven to 375 degrees. {I realize the photo above says 350…I wrote it wrong. I do things wrong a lot. Take a breath and be glad you read the directions :)}
  • Empty cookie mix into a large bowl. Stir in: 1/2 cup softened, room temperature butter {1 stick}, 1 large egg.
  • Stir 1-2 minutes in a stand mixer on low until cookie dough forms and no dry mix ingredients are at the bottom of the bowl. By hand, stir for 4 minutes or until all ingredients come together and forms a cohesive dough. Keep mixing…it will happen!
  • Using a 1 1/2 tablespoon cookie scoop, scoop your cookies onto parchment paper lined baking sheets. You should get 18 exactly if using the same size scoop. Silicone baking mats are a.o.k too. So are gently greased light colored baking sheets. Bake 8-9 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers look almost done but not quite. Remove from oven and cool 5 minutes on the hot pan to finish baking. Then remove to a cooling rack.
  • Devour warm. With milk.

Notes

*if you don’t want to use vanilla beans/can’t find them, simply add in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract with the butter and egg when you mix your batch of cookies.

About the ground vanilla beans..I have the vanilla beans..how exactly do you dry and ground them? is it the whole bean or the seeds..Im new to using vanilla beans in any capacity..thanks!

    1. Lauren

I bought them that way!! Feel free to just slice and scrape the beans out of yours. Or save it for another time and just use vanilla extract.

One question. You stated “brown sugar” in your recipe. Do you use light or dark and do you think it matters significantly? I never know what to do when it isn’t stipulated in a recipe! Thanks!

Oh my gosh, I tried sparkling water with lime a couple of months ago. I don’t even know why I tried it, but I love it too!!!!!

What a great idea, I’ve been making my own cookie mix to give to friends and they always love it! Now on to the fizzy water…I’m obsessed too! Have you tried LaCroix? OMG, life! Changing! You’ll <3 it! The peach and pear is a fave!

Josh and I totally love Pellegrino too! But instead of buying a case from Cosco, we buy it from one of those Eagle Bargain stores that buys all of Cosco’s overstocked/returns and it saves us a bundle. Luckily we have one right here in O.C. so we don’t go far, but it saves us some money. My kids don’t like the flavor (didn’t want to share with them anyways) but Josh and I can’t get enough of it. Totally going to try it with the lime.

YES!! Not sure what side of town you’re on, but if you are ever on the Clackamas side, but they are located in the Green House Square shopping center and there is one in Milwaukie too. But you could always come to the OC Plus outlet one and I’ll cook ya dinner while you’re in the neighborhood 😉

Seriously, though, we got our Blue ray player and new surround there. I stock up on my Orange San Pellegrino drinks and Propel. Josh is addicted to the store.

Hey I’m loving this. When hubby wants cookies, it’s “now.” This will be easy. Hmmm, also good for a holiday gift. Thanks!

I will certainly make these sometime. I appreciate the gram measurements in the recipe as that is how we weigh things here in the Netherlands. But please let me know how much a cup of chocolate chip weighs. We don’t have chocolate chips here either, but I am sure I can just chop up some chocolate as well. Thanks for the recipe!

  20. Marilyn Burkhart

Thanks for the recipe. Love the idea of having a homemade mix. Also thanks for Zipist and gmail as they are the only ways I save recipes and info.

We were so hooked on sparkling water that when our refrigerator finally gave out we bought a Samsung which has SodaStream in the door – sparkling water always ready, cold and available. We also buy the bags of key limes – perfect for 2 glasses – one half in each!
