Weight Loss Update!

Screen Shot 2016-07-10 at 10.25.16 PM

Slowly but surely I’m getting down to my pre-pregnancy weight. Very very slowly. Ha! This is a long term goal I have that I wish was more short term. I’m actually going to be cracking down for the next month because lately we’ve been doing some traveling and had some crazy things we committed to {what else is new?}, but now, we are mostly settled and no more family travel for a long time! Hallelujah! I was hoping to be down to my goal weight by the time Eddie reached 6 months, and I’m super close!! But I’m not confident I’m going to make it, which is fine, but kind of not because Ireallyreallyreallywantedtogetthere!! But alas, LIFE.

So here’s where I’m at:

Eating

Should I tell you I made a delicious batch of chocolate chip cookies tonight? And made them extra large? And had lots of dough? And then lots of baked cookies?

You’re right, I’ll keep that to myself.

I’d say 70% of the time, I am super great and reaching for all the healthy things.

I’m getting back into having my green juices and am experimenting with different recipes. My kids LOVE green juice and I really love it too :). So, I’ll have that with a piece of toast and a protein drink for breakfast. Lunch and the afternoon snacking situation is where I fail miserably.

Dinner is usually low carb. And let me be clear, this is Lauren’s version of low carb, so it’s like I eat half the pasta I normally would {3/4 cup…ish} and double up on salad. I will never give up my carbs. YOU CAN’T MAKE ME!!!!

This weekend, I made the cookies I mentioned above. Sunday’s are the day I bake and make a treat. My husband loves his chocolate chip cookies {classic} so I obliged and made him a few large cookies 🙂

I was visiting my sister and her family over the 4th of July in Arizona and our food consumption was not the best so I’m pretty much happy with the weight I did lose this month with all things considered. {Thank you, breastfeeding.}

Exercise

Since making it to Idaho, we got a gym membership at a gym that actually takes my baby at their child watch!! Most places won’t take small babies {under 6 or 8 months} but I refuse to wait that long to work out, so I made lots of calls and found the only gym to take little babies. Hallelujah! So, while my husband was gone for his annual Army trainings in June, I was able to take all 3 kids to the gym and get a good 1 to 1 1/2 hour workout in Monday to Friday. I’ve decided weekends will be for fun and I won’t work out Saturday or Sunday.

So I did the gym thing for 2 1/2 weeks, but then we left for Arizona and I haven’t been back since! Oops? Oh my heavens, it’s going to be painful to head back, but I love that it gives me clarity, sanity, a little me time and helps me break a sweat. Plus, all the machines have their individual tv’s attached, so I am INTHEZONE watching my HGTV. –>one of the only reasons I like the gym.

I always do the treadmill or the elliptical machine for 45 minutes or so and then follow it up with weights for 20-30 minutes. If I’m feeling crazy, I’ll do the rower. Now that my husband is back and will be coming to the gym with me regularly, he will be super helpful in getting me to push myself harder which I hope will lead to more weight lost.

Weight Loss

So, for this last month, I’ve lost another 4 pounds which is AMAZING considering I ate all.the.things for 4th of July.

Since having Eddie, I’ve lost 44 pounds and I am 5 pounds away from my goal weight. SO CLOSE!! C’mon body! I really can’t complain. Most of my clothes fit me fine now, but I do have a little pooch on my tummy that I’m trying to get rid of….maybe with these last 5 pounds it’ll disappear? Here’s to hoping.

I’m 5 pounds below the weight that I was in high school which is awesome and if I was ambitious, I’d lose another 10 pounds. {We’ll see….} It’s always the last few pounds that take forever to come off!!

I’m expecting this weight loss to slow down since we’re introducing solids to Eddie and he is slowly becoming more and more interested in food and less and less interested in what I have to offer {read: milk}. He’s such a social little guy, it gets hard to nurse him!

Anyways, we’ll see how things go at the gym and where the next month will lead! Here’s to hoping the scale tips in the right direction 🙂

Tips for snacking/snack ideas/healthy lunches would be awesome! Leave me any tips in the comments below.

  1. Five pounds is so doable. That’s great that’s all you have left. I love Kale chips for a healthy snack. A little bit of olive oil, balsamic and salt.

  2. Hey!
    Great work!!
I love reading your posts about trying to lose your baby weight! Our newest addition is 6.5months old so I love hearing another momma’s journey! Thanks to breastfeeding I’m currently 3.5lbs below my prepregnancy weight but parts of me are certainly hanging differently and pooking out in ways they never did before. Lol! I really need to start getting more active and focusing on eating more portein!
Keepcup the great work! I look forward to continuing to read about it! Best of luck!

  4. My son was born 1/20/16 and I am in pretty much in the exact same boat! I’m ALMOST down to my pre-pregnancy weight, but still have a little tummy that I”m not so much a fan of! I also notice that if I lose too fast, my milk supply tanks!
I’ve been trying to do fruit, 2% cheese sticks and almonds for snacks. I am bad about not eating lunch, but I try to do either leftovers or a jar of overnight oats with fruit and almond butter.
You look great! Don’t stress over a few pounds…they will come off when they are ready to.

  5. Lunch is the hardest for me too! Two of my favorite are a whole wheat pita with sliced mozerella, sliced tomatoes, chopped basil…cook for 5 to 7 minutes on broil, then pour a little balsamic vinegar on top when it comes out…so good! !!
The other is avocado chicken salad in a whole wheat pita or sandwich thin. It makes enough to have for a few lunches. And I typically make it with rotisserie chicken I have shredded and frozen.
    INGREDIENTS
2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cooked and diced
    2 avocados, diced
    ¼ cup celery, chopped
    2 green onions, chopped
    ½ teaspoon garlic powder
    ½ teaspoon seasoning salt
    ¼ teaspoon sugar
    ½ teaspoon dijon mustard
    1½ tablespoons reduced fat mayo
1½ tablespoons fat free plain greek yogurt
4 hoagie rolls or pita pockets
    optional: lettuce and tomatoes
    INSTRUCTIONS
Add garlic powder, seasoning salt, sugar, dijon mustard, mayo, and greek yogurt to a medium bowl. Stir to combine.
Add chicken, avocados, celery, and onions and stir to coat well. Spread mixture onto hoagie rolls or stuff into pita pockets. Add additional toppings such as lettuce and tomatoes.

Also, while you are traveling, you could do crossfit or hiit type work outs that don’t need any equipment that way you are still able to exercise with out taking a lot of time or needing a gym.

Good luck on the last few pounds!

  6. My go to summer drink is a can or less of diet lemon/lime soda and 1 cup of frozen strawberries. Put both in a blender and you have a very enjoyable slushy. I would imagine other fruits would work.

  7. I’m SO JEALOUS your gym has a rower! It’s one of my favorite machines, but none of the gyms around me have both childcare AND a rower. So I’m sticking to my DVDs for now and probably forever. womp womp

  8. For the tummy pooch, use the link below to check yourself for a diastasis. I was able to lose my baby weight, but then couldn’t figure out why the pooch wouldn’t go away. I found out through research that it was actually a diastasis recti, where the abdominal muscles had separated. If this is the case, be sure you adjust your exercise routine to keep your ab muscles safe while you work on fixing them. Good luck, and you look great!!! https://fit2b.us/how-to-check-for-diastasis-hd/
