This Week at the Brennan’s

I’m typing this post out as we drive our kids down to New York City to our new apartment!! Here goes nothing 🙂

This week was so so fun!! I love my family.

Here’s what happened this week:

The beginning of the week picked up where I left off last week, with my husband and I running around New York City, trying our best to put our apartment together without our stuff from the moving company. That darn moving company is going to be the death of me. But, regardless, I was able to find a bunch of furniture for our apartment that is getting delivered this coming week, triple bunk bed included!! Things are going to get interesting. Haha!!

I was also able to go out to a few restaurants and go out to dinner effortlessly with my husband a few times. (More details below.) We probably won’t be able to do that for a while. I also met three lovely old ladies from Jersey City at Junior’s and they proceeded to tell me why it was extremely important to see Bette Midler in Hello Dolly. Haha!! It was certainly a fun conversation.

I saw Lion King on my own while Gord went into the office one afternoon. I was more mesmerized by the costumes than the actual story. The elephants and giraffes were amazing!

On Thursday, we flew back to Ottawa to pick up our kids!! Our flight was delayed about an hour and we were anxious to see them, especially Gordon. Brooke and Blake gladly fell into our arms…Eddie was another story. He was definitely happy to give me a few cuddles, but was nervous and hesitant to want anything to do with Gordon. But that lasted only a few hours. After a few hugs, kisses, tickles and wrestling matches, they were back to normal. Life is so much better with a Daddy!

And how convenient we celebrated Father’s Day this past weekend too. Because we have a small apartment and only so much room in our van, I tried to keep things small in regards to the gifts I bought. Saturday night, I put the kids to bed and asked Brooke and Blake why they loved their Daddy so much. I wrote their answers down, cut them into strips of paper and wrapped each one around fun-size chocolate bars. Then I put them all into a mason jar and the kids decorated the jar. It’s an inexpensive and delicious and thoughtful thing to do. My husband loved it, of course.

This weekend, we were also able to go down to Parliament Hill in Downtown Ottawa, check out Ribfest (lots of shut-down streets and people smoking ribs, pulled pork, chicken, etc..) and the Parliament Buildings. I guess there were Vegan protesters at Ribfest and at Parliament shouting a bunch, but we steered clear of them all. Gordon however kept coming up with inappropriate things to say to them like, “hey man, the pulled pork is KILLER!!” Oy! That husband of mine….

Coming up this week:

We will hopefully arrive to NYC in the next few hours with happy kids.

Gordon has this next week off before he goes back to work, so I’m hoping the movers will show up and we’ll be able to get settled nicely and maybe take a few day trips with the kids. They have their hearts set on the statue of liberty 🙂

We are supposed to get internet in our apartment tomorrow!! Woot! I’m so excited. Time to get connected back to my work-reality.

We will get used to itty bitty apartment living. I guess our apartment *could* be smaller, but going from a 5-bedroom 3300 square foot house to a 2-bedroom 850 square foot apartment is kind of a shock to the system.

Yummy Food I Ate this Week

The Smith– Everything I’ve had here was so tasty! The tuna poke appetizer was YUM.

Big Gay Ice Cream– oh so tasty!! Next time, I want to try the Salty Pimp. (It’s an ice cream cone flavor.)

Junior’s– holy cheesecake batman. SO GOOD! I just had the plain jane slice and it was amazing.

Paris Baguette– There are quite a few of these little shops all around Manhattan and I’ve seen a few in Brooklyn too. Anyways, really clean establishment and lovely fresh food. Same with Pret a Manger. I’ve had cobb salads with a ton of avocado at both. YUM!

  4. I love reading about your family adventures. It blows my mind to think of you in the City with 3 little ones. But NYC can be a great place for kids, especially if you have a little money. Suggestion: the Cloisters is a wonderful destination, but sometimes people don’t think of it as a child oriented place. But with boys, I always like to read them a lot of King Arthur themed stories, with knights and castles, and the code of honor. And the Cloisters fits right into that theme, plus the Unicorn tapestries! Kids always love unicorn stories. Gosh, I envy you. My one and only is leaving for college in August, I miss all the activities that you are in the midst of. Be happy, your kids are adorable!

  5. I have loved following your adventure on Instagram. You are a rock star driving all those kids cross country by yourself!! 💪🏻 I hope you and your family have an excellent summer exploring the city. And I hope those darn movers come soon. And Gordan tormenting the vegan protestors may be my favorite thing ever 😂
