Peanut butter cookie dough dip 1

I’m going to make this quick…I’ve been getting little sleep these days cause my sweet little Brookie cookie is sick. She’s had the same cough for a few weeks now that just won’t quit. The past few nights, she’s been coughing; So much so that she’s making herself throw up….poor thing!

I’ve tried elevating her head while she rests, essential oils, honey, vicks vapo rub on her chest and feet {with socks}, dimetapp, little remedies and tylenol cold all with cough suppressants {not all at the same time…calm down}. Nothing is really working, unfortunately. I’d LOVE to give her some hardcore cough medicine so she could *actually* get a good nights’ rest, but she’s still too young for that {sweet sweet elixir} and my doctor is somewhat of a nazi….which I guess they all have to be when it comes to drugs.

Say no to drugs, kids.

I digress.

Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Dip 2

ANYWAYS, nothing seems to be working at all. Anything else I can try? I know you folks are the most brilliant of all readers on the interwebs these days….surely YOU can cure my daughter!

I’ll keep you posted on how things go. I will be trying a new all natural cough medicine tonight and allergy medicine tomorrow. I will get to the bottom of this IF IT’S THE LAST THING I DO.

Did that sound threatening? I wanted to sound threatening.

Ahem.

That was awkward. Anyways……

Yummo must try with my little ones!

For ur little girl my suggestion is ventolin inhaler thru a spacer 4-6 times a day for about a week. Even if she doesn’t have asthma it helps the windpipes to stop spasming when shes coughing giving it time to heal in between!

I was going to suggest the nebulizer too. It was the only thing that helped my daughter, who was later diagnosed with Asthma so we now keep albuterol on hand and start at the first sign of sickness. Insurance usually covers Nebulizers too.

Good luck, Mama! It’s a terrible feeling to be helpless when your child is sick. Remember, the fact that you are there and trying is what she’ll remember. Praying for you both.

It could be allergies or asthma. My daughter had a cough like that and they thought it was asthma. Got it checked. Not asthma but major allergies. I would get her checked for both things.

Hi, I have been there too! My son is asthmatic is 30 years old! I would get your Doctor for a medical opinion or xrays, in the meantime I have used Japanese Oil. Massage on her chest, put a couple of drops on a kleenex in her pillow so she can breath the vapor ( be careful it doesnt get in her eyes if it does use a damp cold cloth and rinse) I still go to bed with Japenese oil.

I have been there and done that with the coughing and it is awful and every child is different and hopefully you will find a solution for yours soon. We had to finally go the allergy testing route as one of your commenters said, but….there are so many options to try first. Good luck and thanks for sharing this dip that will probably be the devil for me….to stop eating that is….thinking some kind of variation of a smore here….

Garlic and honey is a great natural cough syrup! To kick it up a notch, throw in some shredded ginger and onion, some lemon juice and a little cayenne. Let it sit for a little while and then give her a spoonful every couple of hours during the day. My mother used to give it to me and my sibs when I was younger, and it really helped.
I’ve also heard that the juice from fresh pineapples is five times more effective than cough syrup. I haven’t had an opportunity to test it out yet but it’s definitely worth a try!

Delsym cough syrup is over the counter and totally safe for kids. It also works great!!! Pharmicists recommend it.

Oh I hope she feels better soon!! I thank my lucky stars that Jordan was too young before they made that declaration, ha!! 🙂

I have 2 little boys- 4 yrs old and 2 yrs old. I know exactly how you feel. It’s so hard when they get sick because they are so limited on what they can take to make them feel better! I would also say to try Zarbees cough syrup. I use it on my little ones when they get a cough. I also give them Hylands 4 Kids Cold ‘n Cough. Both are all natural and safe for little ones to use. Humidifiers in the room at night is a must. I also use the Little Noses saline drips in their nose, especially before they go to bed to help keep stuff from draining down into their chest. And the biggest thing I do for the whole family now is giving them cinnamon and honey. I mix 1 tbsp warm honey with about 1 tsp cinnamon twice a day. My boys will eat it straight but you can also use it as fruit dip, on toast, on in milk….whatever gets them to eat it 🙂 Honey and cinnamon are both anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral. I found it really helps shorten their colds. Hope you little one feels better soon and that the rest of the family stays healthy!

Lauren, I came across your blog through Sally’s Baking Addiction and I LOVE it. Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful recipe- it looks amazing- When I make it, I’m SO adding milk chocolate chips!

  12. Barb Strachan

Definitely a cool mist vaporizer….makes a huge difference. Works really well and helps clear the congestion causing the cough. Hope she feels better soon!

Have you tried Children’s NyQuil. My pediatrician ok’d this for my 4 year old even though the label says 6 y/o. Just gave her 1/2 dose. When the coughing gets bad especially at night we do the NyQuil, cold humidifier and Vicks on the chest, back and feet. Seems to do the trick to get her a good nites sleep. Hope this helps ur little “Brookie Cookie”.
    P. S. Why the Vicks on the feet? Have no idea, but it’s what my mommy did for me 🙂

My kids had something very similar a few weeks ago and it ended up being a type of strep. I’m not one to run to the doctor for everything, and don’t use antibiotics very often but after about 3 days on antibiotics, it went away. Hope she gets feeling better soon!

  15. Kathy

I’ve been there. I second Zarbees. If she can get past the taste. My kids about gag every time I give it to them. I have to bribe them with brown sugar after they take it. My son gets so bad at night we have to break out the nebulizer sometimes. Good luck!

Perhaps try Claritin. It works for my 5 year old granddaughter, and it is one of the few drugs her Dr allows….and you can spray the back of her throat with chloraseptic…love reading your blog.

My son went through the same thing for a few years. Every winter and spring it would start. It was allergies that was triggering asthma! Try going to an allergist. My son was allergic to EVERYTHING environmental except animals. I tried everything I could think of to help him but at some point you have to get your kid comfortable. The allergist started him on all kinds of asthma treatments to get it under control. Once under control we went to allergy shots. He has been getting them for almost 3 years now (since he was 5) and we have no need for allergy meds anymore, we eat a very clean diet as he is allergic and sensitive to anything artificial in food, even body care, and we have no more episodes like you are discribing. I hope your daughter gets well really soon. I personally know how hard it is to go through that!

My son had a cough that wouldn’t go away, and it turned out to be acid reflux. Try an antacid to see if it gets any better.

I wish I could give you some tips, but having no kids, I have zero clue! Sorry!
How-ev-er, I do know that my face needs this dip. Possibly for breakfast. That’s a thing right? Pinned!

This dip looks yummy. It’s a nice change from just regular cookie dough. Can’t wait to try it. I hope your little one feels better soon.

My kids also throw up a lot cuz of coughing 🙁 Use a Nebulizer with Just Normal Saline solution and also give her Honey mixed with ginger Juice.

  22. Kristine Bunting

Have you tried Zarbees natural cough medicine? I used it on my little guy when he was around 18 months and it made a big difference .
