Joan’s on Third {Los Angeles, CA}

IMG_0160 Last week I took a super quick 36-hour trip to LA to meet up with one of my best friends to go to a Dr’s appointment with her. *For her, not me.

Hi Amy!

IMG_7837-400x267 This photo was taken when we went {with our other friend, Amy} to Oprah. You can read all about that here. And yes, my two best friends are named Amy. I met them in college and they are the bomb diggity. {The other Amy lives in Chicago and I visited her a few month ago.}

ANYWAYS. Long story short, we made the most of our short time together and hit up a few yummy restaurants. Our first stop was Joan’s on Third. OMG, if I lived in LA, I would be here on a weekly basis. Lots of different counters where you can get sandwiches, salads, desserts, meats, cheeses and anything else your little heart desires. Plus, I loved the vibe of the whole restaurant. Fancy, but still casual. With gorgeous food. My heart skipped a beat when I saw their gorgeous dessert cases.  *Don’t tell my trainer :/

Amy and I looked around for a while, then ordered and waited outside at our table.

IMG_0169 We got bread and butter for our table {see photo above} plus some water. I loved the details on this glass. {Yes, I realize this is a photo of just water…}  IMG_0163 Amy got the beef and vegetable soup?! Or just vegetable soup. It smelled divine, but I didn’t try any. But she said it was really good and I trust that palate of hers.  IMG_0178 She also got the Fresh Mozzarella, Tomato and Basil Sandwich on Baguette. You can pick the bread your sandwich is built on too. This was amazing.

Also, I’m kinda-sorta in love with any and all cheese. I blame my mother.  IMG_0175 Homemade pickles also came with the sandwich :) Yum yum! IMG_0185 I got the Butter Lettuce Salad with chicken, feta and craisins. Except I didn’t want the craisins. The dressing on this was pretty tasty too, but I should have asked for it on the side. IMG_0188 And of course I had to get some desserts too!! Check out this amazing strawberry cake! It has me craving summer, like bad. This is a cake I will be recreating at home in the next few months, so be on the lookout for it.  IMG_0199 I also got a cute little eclair because it was really just cute :) IMG_0212 Sweet surprise: it was filled with chocolate cream, not the regular vanilla! Score.

But, these two treats were nothing compared to….. IMG_0193 This chocolate cake. HOLY BALLS, this was the best chocolate cake I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Usually, I don’t like trying other chocolate cakes because I’m totally biased to mine…which is why I call it perfect chocolate cake. But the sweet employees sweet talked me into trying it and, it was awesome. The cake was good, but the frosting is what MADE this cake. {A close recipe replica of this frosting found here.} IMG_0207 Sweet perfection! This was my favorite thing I ate here by far, but there are so many other things I want to come back and try….hopefully soon :)

Anyways, I’d highly recommend this place to anyone in the LA area. This is totally worth the trip and be sure to get a slice of this chocolate cake! Rich and sweet heaven!

    I tried it for the first time this past Christmas and I’ve lived here my whole life. What took me so long?!? The turkey meatloaf sandwich with spicy aioli is amazing! And, you’re right, it’s an awesome vibe there!
