These Cheesy Stuffed Garlic Butter Crescent Rolls are a simple appetizer, brushed with homemade garlic herb butter, filled with mozzarella cheese, rolled up, and baked! There’s nothing better than carbs and cheese!
Last week I made these Cheesy Stuffed Garlic Butter Crescent Rolls as a little afternoon snack and mama-mia were they good. Carbs and cheese, ya’ll! This is almost like a stuffed crust pizza minus the pizza part.

This recipe is one of the ‘repeat offenders’ at my house because you use store bought crescent roll dough, cheese sticks and melted butter, spiked with fresh garlic and italian seasoning. So so simple to throw together that my 8 year old knows how to do this 99% on her own.
Ingredient Notes
- Crescent rolls – Use one tube of crescent roll.
- 4 String cheese – Cut each piece in half to fit perfectly inside each roll
- 2 tablespoons Salted butter – butter adds rich flavor and helps create that golden, slightly crispy finish.
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning – A simple blend of herbs that gives the rolls a nice savory, herby touch.
- 1 small clove garlic – Fresh minced garlic adds bold flavor and pairs perfectly with the butter and herbs.
Delicious as a snack, great to throw into school lunches, the perfect accompaniment for a holiday dinner and obviously the ultimate cheesy garlic bread for your spaghetti or lasagna night.
How to Make Cheesy Stuffed Garlic Butter Crescent Rolls
Basically, it’s a yummy situation that you want to be a part of. That is all. Enjoy your long Thanksgiving weekend!
Below, I’m sharing some photos of the process (so simple!) but be sure to read through and print the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Step 1: Preheat Oven + Prep Pan
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone baking mat and set aside.
Step 2: Make Garlic Butter
In a small bowl, melt butter together with Italian seasoning and garlic.
Step 3: Prepare Crescent Dough
Open the crescent roll tube and separate the dough into triangles. Brush the tops lightly with garlic butter.
Step 4: Add Cheese + Roll
Place half a string cheese at the wide end of each triangle, then roll up tightly.

Step 5: Brush + Bake
Brush the tops with remaining garlic butter. Bake for 10 minutes or until lightly golden brown.

Step 6: Serve Warm

Kitchen Tools for This Recipe
You don’t need anything fancy to make this recipe, but having the right tools makes it easier and more consistent. Here’s what I recommend:
Baking Sheets
A standard baking sheet works well for these since it gives the crescents enough space to bake evenly without crowding. I like using one with a slightly thicker base so the bottoms don’t brown too fast.

Parchment Paper
This keeps the crescents from sticking and makes cleanup quick, especially with the melted cheese. It also helps the bottoms bake more evenly without getting too dark.
👉 Grab it here
Pastry Brush
This makes it easy to spread the garlic butter evenly over each roll so you get flavor in every bite. I use this because it doesn’t soak up too much butter and gives better control.

Budget vs Upgrade
Worth the Upgrade: If you make baked recipes like this often, switching to a silicone baking mat can save you from constantly using parchment paper. It’s reusable, easy to clean, and helps the bottoms bake more evenly without sticking.
Tips for the Best Crescent Rolls
- Don’t overfill the dough – Stick to half a string cheese per roll so they seal properly and don’t leak while baking.
- Use fresh garlic if possible – Fresh minced garlic gives the butter a stronger, more delicious flavor compared to garlic powder.
- Brush generously with garlic butter – Don’t skip this, it adds flavor and helps create that golden, slightly crisp top.
FAQ
- Can I use shredded mozzarella instead of string cheese? Yes! Shredded mozzarella works well. just be careful not to overfill or it may spill out while baking.
- Can I make these ahead of time? Yes, you can assemble them ahead and refrigerate. Bake just before serving for best results.
- How do I store leftovers? Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2–3 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer to keep them crispy

Variations
- Swap mozzarella string cheese for cheddar, provolone, or a blend for a different flavor.
- Add a sprinkle of Parmesan or extra Italian seasoning on top before baking for more flavor.
- Tuck in a slice of pepperoni or cooked sausage for a pizza-style twist.
- Brush with garlic butter and add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little heat.
- Use garlic powder instead of fresh garlic if that’s what you have on hand, it still works well.
- Serve with warm marinara or ranch on the side for dipping.
